SCHOOLS IN BORNO, N’EAST TO EACH HAVE FOUR POLICEMEN, SAYS IG

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris has pledged that schools in the Northeast is to each have four policemen to protect students’ and pupils’ lives in the insurgency affected region. According to him, the region, particularly Borno state, is currently threatened by Boko Haram terrorists; that required adequate police protection. Idris gave the assurance on Friday in Maiduguri, during his official visit to Government College and Yerwa Government Girls College. He said the police are determined to end the spate of kidnappings in the region and assured the students that each school would have four policemen. “Yerwa Government Girls College, Maiduguri which has a higher students’ population, now has 10 policemen to protect lives and property,” said Idris. He explained that in the Girls College, five female and five male officers’ with details of attachments and postings would be made public. He appealed to both students and managers of the schools to cooperate with the policemen attached to their schools by reporting all suspicious characters for immediate action. Idris warned: “All of you should shun all social vices and be law abiding to avoid jeopardising students’ future.” He also donated 20 bags of rice and a cow to the students of Government College Maiduguri. The Principals of Government College, Abba Gana and Government Girls College, Bintu Abakura, thanked the police chief for the visit and on the spot assessment of security in Borno schools. They assured him of their support to report all suspicious cases to the police for prompt action save lives and property.
