Barcelona’s Lionel Messi joined rival Cristiano Ronaldo in an exclusive Champions League club after his brace against Chelsea on Wednesday night.
The Argentine is obviously competing with his Real Madrid counterpart every year for the Ballon d’Or but they now have something in common.
That is because Lionel Messi scored his 100th Champions League goal this evening, as he becomes only the second player to reach 100 goals.
His first came within the first three minutes,
Ronaldo is still ahead on 117 goals but Messi has managed to score 100 in 14 fewer games than it took Ronaldo to reach the century.
Regardless of which player you prefer, we have just witnessed another slice of history with several players coming before the pair, unable to score even 100.
Safe to say, both players will be going on to smash the 100 goal mark but Messi’s century this evening seals his place in Champions League history if it wasn’t already cemented.
some of the best tweets on Messi’s century:
100 – Lionel Messi took 14 fewer apps, 1758 fewer minutes and 266 fewer shots to score his 100th Champions League goal than Cristiano Ronaldo. Greatest? pic.twitter.com/20Fyle8yOn

Messi needed two goals to get to 100 in the Champions League. So he banged them both through Courtois’ legs.

In an even more incredible statistic, Lionel Messi also broke another record during his clash with Chelsea.
This time though, it came in the form of a personal best.
That is because his first goal, which came after only 2 minutes and 8 seconds, has now gone down as his fastest ever goal.
He’s scored many goals, but only now has he scored one with practically the first kick of the game.
