GOVERNOR CALLS FOR MORE COLLABORATION BETWEEN NIGERIAN AND DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS IN THE HEALTH SECTOR

The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has called for more collaborative efforts from development partners in strengthening the country’s health sector.

Governor Ahmed made the call on Wednesday when he received the Founder, Wellbeing Foundation Africa, Mrs Toyin Saraki, leaders of Johnson and Johnson, USA and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine at the Government House, Ilorin.

The Governor who stressed that budgetary provision for health sector is inadequate said effort must be strengthened by all stakeholders to give the sector required attention.

Governor Ahmed also challenged African leaders on current demographic data on births and deaths with a view to ensuring effective planning for growth and development.

He said the present administration had consolidated on the Community Health Insurance Scheme initiated by his predecessor, Senator Bukola Saraki with the Statewide Health Insurance Scheme to make health affordable and accessible to the citizenry.

Governor Ahmed appreciated the Founder, Wellbeing Foundation Africa for her support to women and children in the state.

Speaking earlier, the Founder, Wellbeing Foundation Africa, Mrs. Toyin Saraki had explained that the foundation had been working with Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and Johnson and Johnson to bring Emergency Obstetrics and Newborn Care to seven local government areas in the state since twenty-fifteen.

According to her, the focus of the partnership is to improve wellbeing and life successes for women and children.

She promised further commitment to upscaling Emergency Obstetrics and Newborn Care for the rest of nine local government areas in the state from now up till the year twenty-twenty.

Mrs. Saraki commended Governor Ahmed led administration for its sustained leadership and advocacy for the improvement of the lives of Kwarans, especially women and children.
