The Yobe State Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Ahmed Goniri has said that the 29 repatriated indigenes of the state from Libya; will be reunited with their families, before being released into the society with government support.
Goniri gave the assurance on Saturday in Damaturu, the state; while briefing journalists on the “re-integration and support” of returnees to their communities across the state.
He said the repatriated indigents of Yobe were received at the weekend through the Port Harcourt International Airport.
According to him; “These people have been in Libya doing legitimate business long before the break down of the political situation in that country.
“The deteriorating political situation in Libya, made Nigerians unsafe and soft targets of attack which made them to come back home.”
The commissioner said the 29 returnees were fully screened by security agencies. Health personnel were also to ascertain their status before being released into the society.
Also, Musa Jidawa, the Permanent Secretary for State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), commended the agency for the good working synergy to safeguard the 29 returnees.
“Governor Ibrahim Gaidam promptly intervened yesterday by providing logistics to evacuate the returnees from Port Harcourt to Damaturu, the state capital has facilitated the speedy reunion of the returnees with their families,” he said; noting that it has de-congest the Port
Harcourt returnees’ camps.
He assured that government was ready to evacuate more persons who may be repatriated from Libya or any other country. The Federal Government has also evacuated 1,030 stranded Nigerian migrants from Libya between January 7 and 8, 2018.
Federal Government team to Libya, led by Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, had also on January 5 led a delegation on fact finding mission to Libya to secure release of stranded Nigerian migrants.
