National Committee Distributes 16,351 Tons, Bales of Relief Materials to Borno, Yobe IDPs

The National Logistic Committee (NLGC) on the distribution of relief
items to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Borno and Yobe states,
has delivered 16, 351 tons and bales of food items, clothes and shoes
in Maiduguri.
Presenting the materials on Friday at the Government House, Maiduguri,
the Assistant Comptroller General of Customs, Abdulkadir Azarema
said; it was the directives of President Muhammadu Buhari to:
“Transfer all seized perishable items to displaced persons in the
North-East affected by Boko Haram insurgency for over eight years.”
He said the Nigerian Customs Services (NCS) and other Security and
regulatory agencies with representatives of media have been
discharging the Presidential directives on distribution of relief
materials to displaced persons affected by insurgency.
He announced the delivered materials for distribution to include,
33,114 bags of rice, 4, 834 bales and sacks of second hand clothes,
11, 402 cartons of spaghetti, macroni and tomatoes paste, 32,894 pairs
of used shoes and slippers.
Other delivered relief items, are 14, 043 jerry cans of vegetable oil,
462 pairs of new shoes, 1,793 bags of mosquito coils, 28 bales of
children’s shirts and female wears, 19 bales of hijab/veils, 429 packs
of traveling bags, 27 bales of praying mats and 12 sacks of used
belts.
While thanking Borno State Government for paying the costs of
transporting relief materials, he commended the governor for
distinctive record of hospitality towards members of the national
logistic committee.
He urged officials of the insurgency affected states to: “ensure
equitable distribution of these relief materials to all the affected
people in the North-East sub-region of the country.”
Responding, Shettima who was represented by his deputy, Usman Durkwa
thanked the Federal Government for the relief materials.
He said the relief materials will complement efforts of the United
Nations Humanitarian Agencies and Non-Governmental Organisations
overcome the challenges of “feeding and sheltering” displaced persons
in camps and host communities of Borno.
