The Rector of College of Administrative and Business Studies (CABS), Potiskum, Mallam Musa Auta has been threatened over the suspension of 16 students for examination malpractices during the last semester.
Musa disclosed this at a news conference in Damaturu, while briefing journalists on receipt of threats over the suspension of students from the college for alleged examination malpractices.
“Even though the threats are not sent in directly from the expelled students, this college believes that, the threats are from people who think they are powerful and can force changes over wrong doing,” he
said, adding that the expulsion was for various examination malpractices reported by college examiners.
He said no amount of threat would make the institution to reverse its action against examination malpractices.
His words: “The 16 students were caught cheating by the invigilators during first semester examination. As such, it is right for justice to take its cause.
“We will not pardon them; we won’t go against the ethics of the Examination Committee of this College.
“Petitions over petitions have been written by the sack students and their godfathers, but that would not change our decision.”
He said the expulsion followed the recommendations of a five-man committee set up by the Academic Board of the College. According to him; “The committee found two cases of impersonation, 15
students caught copying from the exhibit material.
“Ten out of the 17 victims appeared before the committee and admitted being guilty. Therefore, those who feel they are not comfortable with the action are free to go to Court.”
Auta also warned that his administration would no longer tolerate examination malpractice and cheating.
He said the sabotaging students had made efforts to frustrate any meaningful decision adopted by the college; but the management stood its grounds. “We want to maintain high standards in our academic
dealings,” he insisted.
