Troops of 151 Battalion and 21 Brigade of Operation Lafiya Dole have killed scores of Boko Haram terrorists in an ambush at the College of Education, Science and Technology, Bama along Ngurosoye road of Borno state.
The troops also recovered arms and ammunition, including three bicycles and a cash of N5, 600.
Spokesman of the military, Brig-Gen Sani Usman disclosed this on Monday in a statement issued to journalists in Maiduguri.
The statement reads: “The troops neutralized a large number of theBoko Haram terrorists, while other terrorists sustained gunshot wounds,” adding that the terrorists burst into the ambush on the
northern flank of Sambisa Forest.
On recovered arms and ammunition, Usman said: “The troops recovered the following items from the terrorists; an AK 47 rifle with the registration number 1029, an AK 47 magazine, 60 rounds of 7.62mm
Special, three bicycles, four empty jerry cans, a cutlass and the cash of Five Thousand and Six Hundred Naira (N5, 600.00k) only.”
In a related development, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in Operation RUWAN WUTA (water-fire) destroyed Boko Haram terrorists buildings used for their meetings, before launching attacks on innocent citizens in Lake Chad region.
This was announced yesterday in a statement issued by Director of Public Relations and Information of NAF, Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya to journalists in Maiduguri.
He said the destruction of the buildings, were made after conducting an air interdiction on structures with two hoisted Boko Haram Terrorists Organisation flags in Zanari on the shores of Lake Chad.
“Quite a number of Boko Haram terrorists had earlier been spotted; from a NAF Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance platform, entering the buildings apparently for meetings,” said Adesanya in the
statement.
He continued: “The F-7Ni and the Alpha Jet aircraft were detailed to attack the target was acquired and engaged the two air crafts; in rapid succession. Subsequently, the Battle Damage Assessment revealed
that the targeted structures went up in flames, killing its occupants.”
He said the objective of fire-thunder bolt, is to degrade the capacity of terrorists from regrouping to cause havoc for troops in the front lines.
“The Operation also aims a softening the ground for our forces to subsequently move in and conduct mopping up operations,” he said.
