APC, PDP Sign Borno Peace Accord Against Political Violence, Others

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have signed a peace accord against political violence, hate speech and thuggery in Borno state.

The parties’ undertakings on peace; were to prevent any political violence before, during and after the 2023 general elections across the state.

The Borno Police Command, has also made 11 arrests of suspected political thugs in the various Local Government Areas.

Signing the peace accord, yesterday (Saturday), in Maiduguri, the State Commissioner of Police, Abdu Umar, disclosed that; “The four political parties, including Nigeria National People’s Party (NNPP) and Action Alliance (AA) will abide with the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act,”

He added that the parties and their members will conduct themselves against fake news and hate speech including political violence during their electioneering campaigns.

According to him, the peace accord will ensure healthy political rivalries during electioneering campaigns across the state.

“With the undertakings on peace during electioneering campaigns, there will be a hitch-free, fair and credible 2023 general elections,” noting that this was to eradicate election violence.
