Yobe state governor, Mai Mala Buni has said that despite the security challenges, peace has been restored in the state.
According to him, besides the challenges facing the country, it recorded remarkable achievements to raise people’s living conditions across the six geopolitical zones.
Buni made the declaration of peace, yesterday (Saturday), in Damaturu, the state capital, to mark Nigeria’s 62nd independence anniversary.
He, therefore, commended President Muhammadu Buhari and the security agencies for sustaining the fight against Boko Haram insurgency that has claimed many lives and property in the Northeast.
“There are tremendous improvements in peace and security in the insurgency affected states of Yobe, Borno and Adamawa,” he said.
He also expressed hopes for a better future in the years ahead.
The Governor called on the people to unite and cooperate with the security agencies for a better country.
According to him, Nigeria is blessed with huge capital, natural and human resources that could fully develop the country to improve people’s living conditions.
He commended the people for their support and cooperation in the last three years of his administration.
He said that the support has led to the execution of various projects and programmes that impact on people’s lives.
“It has inspired the State government achieving its set goals to improve the lives of our people,” he said.
He assured that the government would consolidate on the gains recorded in the health, infrastructure, education, agriculture and youths empowerment sectors of the economy.
“We shall continue to operate an open-door government to give room for collective participation in the administration of the state” he added.
He said as the people approached the 2023 elections, he charged politicians to concentrate on issue-based campaigns against divisive tendencies.
“We have more issues that unite us than issues that divide us, we should therefore concentrate on the positive issues for a brighter future for the country,” he said.
He, therefore, called on the electorate to support peaceful elections, while youths should not be allowed to be used for violence in next year’s general elections.
According to him, the people are to continue praying for a peaceful coexistence and progress of the country.
