The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj-Gen. Abba Dikko has calm down rampaging troops over their redeployments at the Maiduguri airport on Sunday.
Dikko witnessed riotous troops over their deployments by firing sporadically into the air for over five minutes. Spokesman of Theatre Command, Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu in a statement issued on Monday in Maiduguri said the riotous reactions of troops; followed a directive to review troops’ deployment in Maiduguri metropolis. According to him, the redeployment of troops was to reinvigorate the security architecture of the metropolis. He explained that a few troops who had misunderstood the redeployment and erroneously assumed; it will negatively affect their rotation from the theatre of operations. “The troops became agitated and reacted by firing into the air at the Maiduguri Airport,” said Nwachukwu. He said that Dikko also described the incident regrettable, with appropriate measures being taken prevent future occurrence. He said the theatre commander has taken charge of “riotous situation” after addressing rampaging troops. “Members of the public are enjoined to remain calm and go about their normal activities. The situation has been put under firm control,” he assured.
