Military raises alarm over fake Defence twitter handle

The Defense Headquarters of the Nigerian Army has yesterday raised an
alarm over a fake twitter handle @DefenseMonitor for mischievous
purposes; while fighting Boko Haram insurgency and terrorism in the
North-East sub-region of the country.
The alarms; was disclosed on Thursday in a statement of the Director
Defense Information, Maj-Gen John Enenche; and issued to journalists
in Maiduguri.

He said the twitter handle, is mischievously using the Defense logo
and posting twits as they have emanated from the Defense Headquarters,
Nigerian Army, Abuja.

Enenche in the statement also lamented that; “The twits have started
attracting reactions from unsuspecting members of the general public.”
He called on patriotic citizens of the nation to disregard the twitter
account; and ignore the twits, while efforts are being made to track
down perpetrators of the heinous act.

He said the official twitter handle of the Defence Headquarters is
@DefenceInfoNG; which is verified account.
He advised the people to be conscious of increase in the number of
fraudsters; who will go at any length to misrepresent the military and
its institutions.
“The fraudsters sometimes use such a channel to swindle innocent
members of the general public. Please be guided,” he warned.
