KWARA HOLDS SECURITY SUMMIT IN ILORIN

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State says the government is ready to provide additional logistics support to security agencies to improve safety of lives and property in the state.
Governor Ahmed disclosed this on Wednesday  in Ilorin while declaring open Kwara Security Summit with the theme: War Against Internet Fraud, Drug Abuse, Cultism and Kidnapping organised by Urban Security Service.
Represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Security Intelligence, Doctor Sulaiman Abdulsalam, Governor Ahmed said the government had donated fifteen vehicles to security agencies to strengthen their capacity to tackle crimes and would do more to make the state safer.
The governor called for synergy between the police and other security agencies to enhance security in the state.
Governor Ahmed also advocated cordial relationship between the police and the judiciary for effective quick dispensation of justice.
Also speaking, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari who was represented by the Magaji Nda of Ilorin, Alhaji Saliu Muhammad commended the initiator of the programme for raising security awareness among the citizens.
An International Expert on Information Technology, Mr. Adedayo Adesanya in his lecture maintained that information technology is key in tackling crimes across the world, urging security agencies to improve capacity of their officers to tackle cyber crimes in Nigeria.
Mr. Adesanya who called for urgent and serious attention in checking cyber crimes said Nigerians engaging in cyber crimes had brought negative reputation to Nigeria and blocked emerging opportunities for Nigerians at global stage.
In his lecture, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr. Sunday Adewumi urged Nigerians to at all times be aware of their surrounding, saying that most of the areas attacked by terrorists are usually soft targets with increased chances of success.
Mr. Adewumi called on Nigerians recognise the potential signs of improvised explosive devices and desist from touching suspected substances.
In his remarks, the Commandant, two-two Brigade, Nigerian Army, Sobi Cantonment, Colonel Ola Falade called for proper funding of the security agencies in Nigeria in guarantee adequate security of lives and property in Nigeria.
Colonel Falade commended non state actors security outfits for augmentating security provisions needed in the country.
On his own, the Assistant Controller of Prison, Kwara State Prison Command, Mr. Adewale Francis attributed increasing security challenges to huge population, unemployment, stigmatisation against ex-convicts.
Mr. Adewale advised all Nigerians to be concerned about the state of Nigerian prisons and show concern about reforming and rehabilitating the inmates, urging members of the society to accept inmates that have been reformed in the prisons.
