Police officer dismissed from Force, to be prosecuted for murder

Police Corporal Obagi Njok, responsible for the killing of Aba-based businessman Mr. Emmanuel Okocha, has been expelled from the Police Force.

The Abia State Police Command, through its disciplinary team, found Njok guilty after investigating the incident. Okocha, a prominent businessman from Abiriba, Ohafia LGA, was fatally shot in Aba in April 2024 by Corporal Obagi Njok.

The dismissal of the officer was announced in a statement by ASP Maureen Chinaka, spokesperson for the Abia State Police Command.

The statement condemned misconduct and indiscipline among officers, emphasizing the inclusion of the deceased’s family and relevant stakeholders in the investigation process.

The statement read: “Police Corporal Obagi Njok (as he was then) was found guilty of discreditable conduct to wit misuse of fire arms and has therefore been dismissed from the Nigerian Police Force.

“Investigation into the criminal aspects of his conduct has also been concluded and the matter has therefore been handed over to the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Abia state on 24/05/2024 for prosecution in court.”
