A Non-Governmental Organisation (NG)), Babi Foundation, has supported President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointment of Dr. Umar Hashidu as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the North East Development Commission (NEDC).

Lauding the appointment of Hashidu, yesterday, (Sunday), in Gombe, Gombe state, the Chairman of Babi foundation, Amb. Dauda Stanley, disclosed that Dr. Hashidu’s appointment as was magnanimous and ingenious to sustain the Commission’s recorded successes in the six-year implementation of projects and programmes in the Northeast.

According to the former envoy, Hashidu can aptly be described as a round peg in a round hole for the Commission’s top job.

He noted that at 57, Dr. Hashidu has an inspiring track records of supporting community efforts in bringing succour to the down-trodden living in the region, comprising Adamawa, Gombe, Borno, Bauchi, Taraba and Yobe states.

He added that Hashidu places himself ‘head and shoulders higher’ than all the other nominees for the top job of responsibility and commitments of the Commission established in 2017.

His words: “Besides the son of the first civilian Governor of Gombe state, Hashidu has a long line of selfless service to humanity with his father. Abubakar Hashidu of blessed memory7.

Son of the first civilian Governor of Gombe State, Dr Umar Hashidu came from a long line of selfless service to humanity with his father, Abubakar Hashidu of blessed memory.

“Dr. Hashidu is a great benefactor and thoroughbred democrat cum public servant of the finest pedigree,” noted the former envoy.

Stanley lamented that the Northeast has gone through many years of backwardness, attributing it to the about 14 years Boko Haram insurgency.

He said during the over a decade conflict, there were series of banditry, kidnapping and communal clashed in various communities.

He, therefore, solicited for a vibrant, physically active and meticulous young nominee for the CEO/MD of the Commission.

Continued; “With several tooth marks and vestiges of the over a decade insurgency with scores of displaced persons, overstretched and threadbare infrastructure, abject poverty and poor living conditions of the people of the Northeast; it takes an emphatic and compassionate leader like Dr. Hashidu to roll back the years of tears and blood.”

While describing Buhari’s initiative to establish the Commission, as a legacy for posterity, Stanley believes that the masterstroke to preserve and sustain trans-generational initiative was to put Hashidu at the helms of affairs of NEDC.

He said that the job of the Senate has been made easy with the inclusion of such gold fish as Dr. Hashidu.

“It is no brainer for the National Assembly to spot such a gem, as Dr. Umar to expedite the process of bringing him on board,” he said, stating that he is a nominee that has ticked all the important boxes as far as the job of reconstruction, rehabilitation and resettlement of the Northeast region affected by insurgency.

End.
