NYSC D-G meet with INEC, seeks Corps protection against 2023 election

The Director General, National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Yushau Dogara Ahmed has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to take proper care of its coppers who will be going out for the 2023 general election.

D-G Ahmed who promised the Commission that NYSC will do all its best to ensure election goes as planned; urged INEC to also reciprocate the gesture by taking care of their welfare and make it a priority.

According to him, “NYSC will work tirelessly to make sure 2023 elections are conducted according to the lay down rules and regulations of INEC and electoral Act of 2022 as amended”, he said.

General Ahmed also thanked INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu over the welfare of corps members in the previous elections.

He therefore, appealed to the commission to also train those of NYSC members in Kano and Enugu states who could not attended the training conducted earlier.

Responding to the question of the D-G, Ahmed, who asked the commission on the fate of the corps members after election, INEC Chairman professor Mahmood Yakubu responded that the commission will take care of the corps members satisfactorily even before and after the election.

Yakubu equally vowed to trained those corps members in Kano and Enugu who were unable to have their training earlier.

While Thanking the D-G for seeing the commission as one of the first place to visit, Prof Yakubu said the services of NYSC is imperative as it alone cannot do it, reason it always carry all the stakeholders along including Security agents.

The Chairman also reiterated his commitment to ensure the total safety of the corps members saying, that is why they were working with the security agencies.

He added that henceforth, the commission will try to train the corp members right from their orientation camp ahead of election, rather than doing it when election is around the corner.

INEC boss maintained that the MoU the commission signed with NYSC will be taking seriously.
