Zulum, VSF Resettle Over 5, 700 IDP Households with Support of Food, N570.4M

The Borno state government in partnership with Victims Support Fund (VSF) has resettled 5, 704 Internally Displaced Person (IDP) households with support of food and non-food items and N570.4 million.

The resettlement of IDP households from Gubio camp to Marte community, is under the 2022 VSF relocation project in the state.

Flagging off the resettlement project, yesterday (Thursday) at the Gubio Road camp, Governor Babagana Zulum, represented by his deputy, Usman Gadafur, disclosed that the relocation of IDP returnees to Marte, brings to 16 communities already resettled.

According to him, the households’ distributed food and non-food items comprise a bag each of rice and maize, cooking utensils, mattresses, and cartons of spaghetti including hygiene kits.

Besides, he added that each head of household is paid N100, 000, while married women are each to get N50, 000.

“Today’s resettlement exercise with VSF will enable 11, 765 IDPs to be relocated from the camp to their liberated community,” he said.

He added that 15 buses were provided by the state government for the returnees to travel and resettle in their liberated community.

Gadafur, therefore, urged the returnees to be law abiding and vigilant by reporting suspicious movements of people and groups in the community to the military and other security agencies for prompt action.

While thanking the VSF, he said: “The three-year financial and material support of the Fund could expedite the relocations of displaced persons into the remaining communities by 2025.”

Responding, the Vice Chairman of VSF, Air Vice Marshall Lawal Alao (rtd), said that the IDPs Relocation Project, was to ‘resettle and restore’ the livelihoods of resettled returnees in the liberated communities.
