Zulum Inaugurates 27 Borno Local Government Committee Chairmen

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state; has said that the Government will continue to monitor the activities of the 27 Council chairmen under the 2000 Local Government Law and circulars.

According to him, the former council chairmen should support the newly inaugurated committee chairmen in service delivery at the grassroots,

Inaugurating the committee members, yesterday (Thursday), in Maiduguri, Zulum, represented by his Deputy, Usman Gadafur, disclosed: “We have heard the voices of the people on the Local Government and Local Education Authority staff verification challenges,”

He said that the state government has set up an appraisal committee led by the Secretary to the State Government, Usman Jidda Shuwa for a review.

“The Shuwa review committee was address any anomaly in recent verification exercise,” he said, adding that the committee will ascertain the actual number of qualified council workers and teachers.

He added that the Committee will soon come up with workable recommendations for immediate

On the 2023 general elections, he said: “It is duty bound upon you to take the lead in the mobilization effort in your various Council areas on voter education.

He lamented that there are quite a number of Permanent Voters

Cards (PVCs) litre the various Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) offices across the

State.

He, therefore, charged the chairmen to embark on the extensive awareness campaign on the need for the citizenry to collect their PVCs, as well as exercise their universal suffrage in the 2023 elections.

He also urged them to support and cooperate with the military and other security agencies to ensure peace during and after the elections.

“You’re to ensure a level playing ground with conducive working environment for all staff,” he declared.

The Commissioner of Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Mai Mele Sugum charged the chairmen to ensure peace and security in all the Councils areas.

He added that they are also to support the efforts of the military, other security agencies and Civilian (JTF), as well as the vigilantes in their respective Councils.
