Yobe Distributes Food, Non-Food Items To 475 Schools

The Yobe State government has distributed food and non-items to 475 Tsangaya schools in three Councils of the state.

The distribution; under the Tsangaya Schools Feeding (TSF) programme was to attract the street children to attend schools in the state.

Inaugurating the distribution of the materials, yesterday (Wednesday), in Damaturu, the Executive Secretary of State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Mohammed Goje, disclosed: “Distribution of the materials to the Almajiris (street children) was to ‘attract and retain’ them in the various schools for Western and Islamic education.”

According to him, the children’s support feeding programme is under the Buni Tsangaya School (BTS) programme.

He said the Agency had earlier supported 85 Almajiri schools with the items in three Councils of Jakusko, Potiskum and Damaturu, the state capital.

“The distributed food and non-food items to the schools comprise a bag each of rice, maize and bales and cartons of blankets, clothes, mats and seasoning cubes,” he said, adding that over 1, 000 pieces of buckets, bows and cups.

The school feeding programme was to cushion the hardships of both the Tsangaya teachers and vulnerable Almajiris.

He noted the Agency also distributed winter jackets and blankets against the harmattan cold in the state.

“Three other Local Government Areas from each of three senatorial districts would be selected for the next distribution,” he added.
