Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has charged farmers and herders to live in peace for the developments of the agricultural and livestock sectors of economy.
According to him, the two economic sectors complement each other for accelerated economic development and growth of the country.
Buni gave the charge over the weekend (Saturday), at Ngelzarma solidarity rally organised in honour of Buni by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).
“Farming and the herding of livestock complements each other,” he said, as the two critical economic sectors needed each other to thrive for their livelihoods.
He, therefore, tasks the farmers and herders to fish out the bad eggs among them.
“The bad eggs amongst you have been creating confusion and crisis of the loss of many lives and property in the various communities,” he said.
He warned that the farmers and herders should not further create crisis among the people.
The Governor also reminded traditional and religious leaders of their responsibility in promoting peace in their domains.
He said the National President of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Baba Usman Ngelzarma, be supported for him to succeed by preaching peaceful coexistence of farmers and herders in the state and across the nation.
While thanking the Governor for the support, at the association’s election, Ngelzarma, said that; “My victory at the polls was enabled by the herders in the country.
“I, therefore, need your support and cooperation to contribute in building peace in the states to protect the rights of herders,” he said, noting that this will enable them to graze without encroaching any farmland.
