Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has warned 233 students against cultism, while studying at the Glocal University, India.
Buni, represented by his Deputy, Idi Gubana stated, yesterday (Sunday), in Damaturu by his Press Secretary, Hussain Mai-Sule that the sponsored students were drawn from the 17 Local Councils to study medicine, pharmacy, engineering, as well as paramedic sciences.
According to him, all the students were warned against cultism and other forms misconduct on and off campus of the Indian University.
He noted that Gubana’s visit to India was to interact with the students and the school’s management and assess their progress and challenges of studying in the educational institution.
“Students be guided by the ethical values, good conduct, moral behavior,” he said, adding that this will ensure compliance to acceptable norms of India.
Gubana, during the visit met the Vice Chancellor of the varsity, Prof. Syed Ahmed, with the exchange of ideas on performances and proper mentoring of the students.
“We’ve 83 others studying in the United Kingdom, Sudan and Uganda,” he said.
He stated that the foreign sponsorships of students was to raise the “standards of education” to address the dearth of manpower in the civil service.
According to an education report, over N800 million was earmarked in 2021 for students’ foreign scholarships in various universities across the globe.
Other top government officials on Gubana’s visit include the Commissioners of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Prof. Mohammed Munkaila and Dr. Garba Iliya; and Chairman, House Committee on Higher Education, Buba Kalallawa.
