Yobe Enrolls 32,980 Vulnerable Persons Into Healthcare Scheme

Yobe State Government has commenced the enrolment of 32,930 vulnerable persons and the poor into the State’s healthcare delivery scheme. The scheme, is being implemented under the Social Equity Programme (SEP) at N200 million. While inaugurating the scheme Monday in Ngelzarma, the State Commissioner of Health and Humanitarian Services, Dr. Mohammed Lawan Gana said: “In addition to the current formal sector and basic healthcare provision fund of the state government, SEP will provide free health coverage for the poor and vulnerable across the state.”

 “The enrolled persons have access to free and qualitative healthcare delivery services,” he said, stating that this marks the commencement of access to healthcare to the vulnerable. Dr. Gana, who describes the initiative laudable, disclosed: “We’re targeting pregnant women, mothers and children under five for the scheme.” He added that accident victims are also to be captured electronically by the focal Primary Healthcare Centres in 178 wards. He noted that the enrolment has commenced today (Monday) and be continued in phases to complete their enrolments into the scheme. He therefore called on political and traditional leaders including the general public to continue support the health scheme coverage. The Executive Secretary, Yobe State Contributory Health Care Management Agency (YSCHMA), Dr. Babagana Tijjani said that every citizen is to get the card free of charge across in 178 wards The Fune Council Chairman, Babagoni Bade; also urged health workers to discharge their responsibilities in the healthcare delivery to vulnerable persons.
