Zulum Supports Forum With N5M To Restore Peace, Security In N’East

Date:

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state has supported the Northeast Civil Society Forum (NCSF) with N5 million to ensure security and peace. According to him, stakeholders, including traditional and community leaders should ensure peace and security. He made the financial support Wednesday, while addressing participants at the Northeast Peace and Security Summit (NPSS) held in Maiduguri. Zulum, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Prof. Isa Marte said that for any country to develop there must be peace and stability“We’ve all sorts of conflicts in the country. In the Northeast; if you compare pre and post 2015, definitely there have been improvements. “The only thing we have started seeing lapses, but our security personnel have done very well by sacrificing their lives for giving us peace,” he said. He noted that in some of the developing countries, there are conflicts, which continue to stifle economic growth and development. “That’s why all hands must be on deck and we should work and find everlasting solutions,” he said. According to him, the best way a society can develop is to have good governance, transparency and accountability to the people. He noted that good governance entails the provision of infrastructural facilities for roads, water and electricity supplies. The Adamawa State networks for the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Chairman, Peter Egwudah in a paper presented at the summit entitled: “Findings from Regional Consultations of Civil Society Organisation in Nigeria,” made three-point recommendations on restoring peace and security to the region. He said there is the need for dialogue with the groups to attain sustainable peace, while the citizens are continually sensitized. “There should be enhancement of coordination, equipment and strategies used by security agencies in fighting insurgency,” he said, noting that there should be economic empowerment of people affected by the conflict. According to him, youths and other marginalized groups are included in decision making processes.
