NYSC Begins Corps Members’ Orientation Amid COVID-19 In Yobe

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC); has commenced orientations of
corps members amid coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the state.
The 572 corps members, are of 2020 Batch B deployed to undergo
orientation at Dazigau village in Nangere council of Yobe state.
While commencing the three-week orientation Monday, the NYSC State
Coordinator, Mrs. Grace Adzer disclosed that the scheme is to expose
members to state’s environment, languages, culture and the host
communities they are to serve for nine months.
She urged them to observe physical and social distancing, including
the wearing of face mask at the orientation camp along Potiskum/Kano
road.
“At this swearing in ceremony, as well as you can see with strategic
placement of hand washing points with soap in camps, are COVID-19
protocols of Nigerian Disease Control Centre (NCDC) against pandemic,”
she said, warning that any acts of insubordination will not be
tolerated during the exercise.
She noted that for avoidance of doubts, all measures have been put in
place to ensure a COVID-19 hitch-free exercise.
According to her, the orientation exercise, include military drills,
Man ‘O’ War, leadership training, language studies and lectures on
entrepreneurship.
She said they are to be coopted into various committees for the smooth
running of the secured orientation camp.
“Your assessment for the service year starts right from this camp,” she said.
She thanked Governor Mai Mala Buni for providing logistic support for
the smooth take off of the orientation exercises.
Buni, who was represented by the Commissioner of Youths; Sports and
Community Development, Goni Lawan assured continuous support of the
NYSC scheme in nation building.
“We’ll partner with NYSC by stepping down the skills acquisition
training to the 572 youths in camp,” he said.
