The Executive Director of International Society of Media on Public
Health (ISMPH), Mrs. Moji Makanjuola; has urged media practitioners to
continue advocate on consistent hand washing and hygiene in
communities.
According to her, the continuous advocacy was to reduce the increasing
number of Nigerians tested positive with COVID-19 deadly virus.
Makanjuola made the call Saturday; while presenting a special Easter
message to the general public in Abuja.
“The consistent hand washing and community hygiene, are inevitable for
people take ownership to prevent COVID-19 for their long-term health
benefits,” she said, noting that the challenges of fighting
coronavirus are before the general public, particularly media
partners.
While speaking on COVID-19 preventive measures, she said: “Consistent
hand washing is the first line of defense against COVID-19 menaces,”
warning that Nigeria cannot afford community infection with its heavy
toll on people’s lives.
Her words: “We must bring to the fore that some communities have no
access to water. Access to water supply and distribution; should be a
priority for communities to imbibe the culture of hand washing and
promotion of personal hygiene.”
She said the moves will mitigate the risks inherent in large
population households’ reality, especially in polygamous and extended
contexts where social spacing or distancing is very much ineffective.
While wishing the general public a safe, healthy and happy Easter, the
ISMPH boss reemphasizes on the need for hand washing, maintaining
social distance, avoiding large gathering.
“All of us irrespective of our religion, ethnicity, economic and
social status, we should stay safe and free of COVID-19.” she
counselled.
