Borno Response Team Directs Army To Screen, Test Drivers At Entry Points

Date:

The Borno state COVID-19 response team, has directed the Army to
screen and test drivers at three entry points into Maiduguri
metropolis.
The three entry points at Njimtilo, Muna and Dalori camp; were closed
midnight Tuesday by Governor Babagana Zulum to prevent outbreak spread
of coronavirus into Borno state.
The Commissioner of Transport, Hon. Alhaji Abubakar Tijjani and member
of Borno COVID-19 response team on Monday in Maiduguri said: “Governor
Zulum directed the closure of all roads entering Maiduguri, the state
capital; except those on essential services.
Malam Modu Fannami, a truck driver at Njimtilo entry screen and test
entry point  said that he was stopped and screen at Benisheikh and
Damaturu, before reaching Maiduguri by noon Sunday.
“The Army and health workers allowed me to proceed into the metropolis
without a comprehensive screening exercise against COVID-19.
“Even my driver mate was not screened against the global deadly virus
at Njimtilo entry point,” he said.
While lamenting noncompliance to preventative measures of COVID-19, he
said: “We’ve observed that the level of compliance is not
satisfactory.”
His words: “I’m to reiterate the commitment of this administration in
protecting the lives of its citizens.
“The response team therefore wishes to draw the attention to ensure
full compliance of the directives not to allow any vehicle into the
state, except those conveying food items, medical supplies, building
materials and other essential services or may have been cleared
beforehand.”
According to him, drivers and mates of trucks and other vehicles
should be subjected to thorough screening before being allowed entry
to enforce compliance.
Tijjani therefore, requested the Army to mobilize its troops at six
entry points to prevent and control spread of COVID-19.
The six entry points closed by Governor, are located at Njimtilo,
Muna, Dalori and Gubio camps, Molai and Monguno Road.
