CBN SUPPORTS 60,000 BORNO FARMERS IN FOUR YEARS

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has supported 60,000 Borno farmers, under the Anchor Borrowers’ Agricultural scheme. The four-year scheme, included, accelerated agriculture development, agribusiness small and medium enterprise investments and agriculture credit guarantee. Head of CBN’s Development Finance Office, Alhaji Mahmood Nyako disclosed this Friday in Maiduguri, while reviewing Anchor Borrowers’ scheme to journalists.

He noted that despite the decade long Boko Haram insurgency; many private and prime anchors have benefited from apex bank’s various agricultural programmes. According to him, the programme has recorded remarkable success in the state. “The implementation of agricultural schemes, have stabilized market prices of food items.

It also created job opportunities to hundreds of unemployed youths. According to him, CBN’s agricultural schemes have also created jobs among the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in camps and host communities.

“We’re targeting to reach about 70,000 farmers in the state this year under the Anchor Borrowers, accelerated agriculture development; agribusiness small and medium enterprise investment and agriculture credit guarantee schemes,” he said. He said that all the schemes are geared towards increasing agricultural output to attain food security in the state.
