Sen. Mohammed Ali Ndume; has tasked the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) on the return of 2.7 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in to their communities in Borno state. The IDPs are taking refuge in camps and host communities of Maiduguri, after being attacked and displaced by Boko Haram insurgency in 22 Local Government Areas. Ndume gave the task Thursday in Maiduguri; in an interactive session with journalists on return of displaced persons to their respective communities. His words: “The commission should take the right decision and act quickly on reconstructing, rebuilding and resettling destroyed communities and the displaced persons. He said the challenge before NEDC, has to be overcome by first reconstructing all the destroyed houses, while the people are to be rehabilitated and resettled to commence their livelihoods. He noted that the IDPs should be given the chance to building their destroyed houses, including basic infrastructural facilities that were destroyed by insurgents, He said this will enable the people return to their farmlands and other socioeconomic activities restore community livelihoods. He lamented that the displaced persons had been living in camps and host communities for over five years.
