BRUDER HILFE DONATES 100 WHEEL CHAIRS TO BORNO DISABLES

The Bruderhilfe Social Development Initiative (BSDI); has yesterday donated 100 mobility carts to people living with disabilities in Borno state. The carts, which are modernized wheel chairs; donated by a German-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) are being distributed to disables living in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps and host communities. Presenting the carts Saturday to State’s Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in Maiduguri, BSDI President, Mary Bruder said the carts will provided succour to people suffering from disabilities in camps and communities affected by insurgency. She said that it’s a continuous process of intervention, with the empowerment of people living with disabilities in the Northeast. Her words: “We’re committed to alleviate sufferings of disables in camps and host communities, despite their challenges of mobility within and outside the IDP camps. “A disability empowerment scheme will be flagged off for registered people living with disabilities in camps and host communities of this state.” While receive the wheel chairs, SEMA chairperson, Hajiya Yabawa Kolo said the donation signifies the passion to serve humanity; with spirits of brotherhood assist people afflicted by trials and tribulations. She said the gesture has rekindled hopes of the disabled; living in camps and host communities of Bama, Monguno, Dikwa, Damboa, Gwoza and Gambouru, a border town with Cameroon. “This is the second time, we will be distributing wheel chairs to people living with disabilities in recent time,” she said. She said Rehobot Foundation, in the U.S had distributed wheel chairs to vulnerable members in the state. According to her, the carts will be distributed to disabled persons, selected by a joint National Association of Persons (NAP) living with disabilities. She said that some people became disabled as a result of sporadic gunshots and bomb blasts to become immobile without the wheel chairs. She told the president that it’s not easy to leave her comfort zone to visit an epicentre of insurgency and donate a widow’s mite to IDPs. She assured that 50 chairs would be distributed immediately, while the remaining ones are for disables in northern Borno.
