UNDP launches databases on N’East humanitarian development nexus

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has launched community-based social safety nets and recovery database project for Borno state. Other databases project; are two handbooks on water resources management and Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLA) for the Northeast. Inaugurating the project on Saturday in Maiduguri, Head of UNDP Northeast sub-office, Mizuho Yokoi said: “This project that has addressed critical information and coordination gaps in Borno state was implemented for 20 months.” She added that the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operation (ECHO) supported the recovery project to achieve humanitarian development nexus in Northeast, particularly Borno state. According to her, the project will improve and sustain water resources management, and strengthen humanitarian intervention and recovery planning. She said the recovery planning, could be achieved through the establishment of recovery databases in water sector and community-based safety nets. She said the handbook on water resource management will guide policy makers and WASH sector to improve on safe potable water. While the handbook on savings, according to her, will contribute to government and cash working group intervention activities on sustainable livelihoods. “The recovery database is expected to fast track delivery of effectively coordinated recovery intervention activities that meet conflict-affected population of Borno.
