YOBE EARMARKS N8.42 BILLION FOR ROAD PROJECTS

The Yobe State Executive Council (SEC) has earmarked N8.422 billion for the construction of seven new road projects with 55.3-kilometre drainage in Damaturu. The 25.5-kilometre dual carriage way, is to link an International Cargo Airport and the Kalallawa community along Dapchi road. Briefing journalists on council meeting held on Wednesday in Damaturu, the Commissioner of Information, Alhaji Mala Musti disclosed that the dual carriage to Kalallawa and Airport will cost N4.999 billion. He said the completion of road will facilitate movement of persons and goods to the airport, which is under construction. “The construction of 5.7km road and 11.4 km concrete drainage at Don Eteibet Housing estate in Damaturu; was approved by the executive council at the cost of N1.1 billion,” he said. He said the council also approved the construction of 3.3 km road with 6.6 km concrete drainage at the Njiwaji Layout at cost of N749.9 million. He added that another 2.8-kilometre road project with 5.6-kilometre drainage at Ali Marami Housing estate; was also awarded at N560.9 million. His words: “Similarly, the council approved 1.6-kilometre road and 3.2 km concrete drainage at Abbari ward at the cost of N360.1 million. “There was another 1.5-kilometre road with a concrete drainage of 3.0 km at Nayinawa at the cost of N317.4 million and, 2.4km road with 4.8km concrete drainage at Anguwar Karo at N474.02 million.” He said the council approved the construction of two-kilometre dual carriageway from the Damaturu-Maiduguri road to the completed 330 KVA power substation through direct labour at N178.3 million. He assured that all the road projects are to be completed on or before May 29, 2019.
