DEFECTION TO PDP WINS ME TICKET CONTEST BORNO SENATORIAL SEAT-ABBA-AJI

Date:

An ex-All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship aspirant, Sen. Mohammed Abba-Aji, who dumped the party for People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Borno state, has clinched party’s ticket for central senatorial district. Abba-Aji was declared the winner of primary election on Wednesday in Maiduguri by Dr. Andy Aghadi, Chairman of party’s electoral committee. He said the winner polled 594 votes to beat his closest contender, Alhaji Grema Terab, who polled 242 votes. According to him, Bukar Kachallah, a former Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, came third with four votes. While announcing results of primaries, Dr. Aghadi, commended the senatorial aspirants for their maturity and understanding the electoral processes to win. Abba-Aji commended Terab for conceding defeat by stepping forward to congratulate him. His words: “I have thanked the good people of my senatorial district for the show of support and loyalty which they have demonstrated by massive votes they have cast for me. “I also appreciate Terab, who despite his young age, demonstrated a rare sense of maturity and the spirit of sportsmanship. He described his loss as another victory to the “establishment.” According to him, the establishment has won the few conscious ones, who identified with the struggle among various ethnic and religious groups. He warned that the people must not give up to “hopelessness and mediocrity” in moving the state to greater heights.
