THEATRE COMMANDER WARNS TROOPS AGAINST INDISCIPLINE, OTHERS

The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj-Gen. Abba Dikko has warned troops against “indiscipline and insubordination” to end Boko Haram insurgency. The warnings were hand down on Wednesday, while addressing troops at the Dalwa front line along 187-kilometre Maiduguri-Damboa road. According to him, indiscipline and insubordination to authority could mar the achievements recorded to end insurgency and terrorism. Dikko issued the warning in a statement signed by Col. Onyeama Nwachukwu, the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations of the Theatre Command, in Maiduguri. His words: “As you continue to exercise your professionalism in counter-insurgency operations, don’t hesitate to communicate your challenges on time through appropriate channels. “This will ensure prompt attention to end Boko Haram insurgency that has claimed many lives and property.” Dikko further disclosed that the welfare of troops in the counter-insurgency operation has been accorded topmost priority by the military. He also assured them that no soldier in the front lines would be denied of rotation when due. While lauding their gallantry defends the nation, he said: “Your collective sacrifices in the front lines were to protect the territorial integrity of nation from foreign aggressors.” Commander of Forward Operational Base, Dalwa, Flt-Lt, Martins Enwerem assured the Theatre Commander of troops’ loyalty and resilience to combat terrorism and insurgency in the region. Last Sunday in Maiduguri at the airport, some aggrieved soldiers protested against the alleged over stay and re-deployment in the theatre of war against Boko Haram insurgency. The soldiers also barricaded some sections of airport and fired sporadically into the air in protest of their deployment to Marte. Marte, a farming community, northeast of Maiduguri, the state capital; was liberated by the military in 2016.  Over 2, 155 people were displaced and currently taking refuge at Dikwa Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp, Dikwa.
