JURIST FAULTS SYSTEM OF FIGHTING CORRUPTION IN NIGERIA

Date:

Tunde Akanbi Ilorin

A Retired Jurist, Justice Abdullahi Idris Haroun has urged the Federal Government and anti-corruption agencies in the country not to pay lip service in the fight against corruption but rather tackle the menace frontally, sincerely and practically.

Justice Haroun gave the advice in Ilorin the Kwara state capital while answering questions from newsmen.

The jurist who is a former Grand Khadi in the State Sharia Court of Appeal, Ilorin lamented over the way corruption is been fought by the government particularly through the  pages of newspapers, radio, television, presentation of papers and delivery of speeches .

According to him, the fight against corruption should be properly seen among members of the public, in ministries, government agencies and even in the private sectors and to the common Nigerian on the street.

Cue in Actuality…………

Justice Haroun observed that a government that is God fearing would do everything that would please God and humanity without been forced while a leader should see himself or herself as been held in trust.

The jurist described the nation’s educational system as cracking and criticized the moral decadence in the society and therefore urged the government to put on its thinking cap by recapturing the ideas and philosophies of the founding fathers so as to touch the lives of the less privileged in the country.

Justice Haroun wondered how individuals would amass wealth illegitimately at the detriment of the suffering masses and said all such ill-gotten money would be accounted for hereafter hence the need to shun such creed.

Answering another question, the former Grand Khadi described hate speech as not only absurd in Islam but condemned by the Holy Qur’an and  that anyone involved in such practice which is mere rumor against another person, government or organization  would end up in hell fire.

The jurist who is heading a ten-man committee on Muslim and Christian pilgrimages courtesy of the Senate  President, Doctor Bukola Saraki described the idea behind the move as purely spiritual and that the project has so far been successful and moving on smoothly and praised the Senate President for the gesture.
