The Borno State Police Commissioner, Damian Chukwu has said two suspected Boko Haram female suicide bombers died; while attempting to infiltrate 333 Artillery military mammy market on Wednesday night in Maiduguri. The first suspect was shot by soldiers at the gate, while the other detonated her strapped Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), injuring 15 other persons trooping into the night market. Chukwu disclosed this on Thursday in a statement released to journalists in Maiduguri. He said the gunned down suspect, was trying to buy a ticket to gain entrance into the market, where troops of Operation Lafiya Dole socialize. According to him; the bomb exploded and killed the first suspect; while the second bomber detonated her explosives inside a tricycle. He noted that the driver of the tricycle however fled the scene of the twin bomb blasts. The statement reads: “As a result of the explosions, the two bombers died instantly while fifteen persons were injured and were rushed to the hospital for treatment. “Meanwhile, the scene of incident has been sanitised by a team of EOD personnel and normalcy has been restored.” The police chief assured members of the public of the commitment of the police to continue protect lives and properties. He urged the people to be extra vigilant and to promptly report suspicious persons and activities to police and other security agencies for prompt action.
