UNIMAID GRADUATES 14,368 STUDENTS AMID SECURITY CHALLENGES

Date:

Jutha Gupah, Maiduguri April 23, 2018. The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has graduated 14,368 students with the awards of 8,543 undergraduate degrees at its 23rd combined convocation slated for next Saturday. The UNIMAID Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi disclosed this on Monday at a pre-convocation press conference in Maiduguri. He said the graduation of students in various degrees, diplomas and certificates between 2014 and 2017 were made possible amid the nine-year Boko Haram insurgency. His words: “The varsity was able to graduate over 14,000 students from various Faculties Departments. We had to remain resilient in overcoming the challenges of security within the campus and University community. “Insecurity which created fear in the minds of parents affected the enrollment in the first year of Boko Haram insurgency in Borno state and the Northeast.” According to him, the objective assessment of UNIMAID has lived up to the expectations of its founding fathers. He further disclosed that between 2014 and last year, 18,000 students were admitted into the varsity, out of 65,000 students seeking admissions. He said during the convocation week, three eminent Professors will be conferred with Emeritus Professors. The awardees, according to him, joined the University with the Northeast College of Arts and Science (NECAS), Maiduguri. On completed projects, he said: “The five completed projects for commissioning this week are the Senate and Veterinary Complexes, Mega Halls, Centre for Distance Learning and an International Technical Centre.” He said that it costed the varsity N2.21 billion to compete the projects.
