The Borno State Police Commissioner, Damian Chukwu has yesterday disclosed that another suicide bomb attack on Bama by three suicide bombers was foiled by policemen deployed to protect returnees’ lives and property. Bama was last Sunday attacked at the Ajilari mosque, killing three worshippers with the hospitalisation of nine others. Damian in a statement released on Tuesday in Maiduguri said three suspected suicide bombers were neutralized by policemen deployed to Bama Township. The policemen and civil defense corps were deployed to protect over 120,000 returnees from Maiduguri camps. “Our men have foiled another suicide bombing attack on returnee residents of Bama on Monday, April 23, 2018 at about 10pm. The foiling was assisted by the police Explosives Ordinance Department (EOD) team. Otherwise,” he said, noting that it could have been devastating on people’s lives and property. He said that the foiled attack was coordinated by the Boko Haram insurgents through the northern flank of Sambisa Forest and in the Bama/Pulka/Gwoza axis. According to the statement; “The three suicide bombers who attempted to infiltrate Bama town through Ajilari area; were however sighted and challenged by security operatives at a guard location. “The suicide bombers hurriedly detonated the Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) strapped to their bodies, killing them only.” Spokesman of the police, Edet Okon in the statement said the EOD team had sanitised the area and normalcy had been restored. He urged the returnees to go about their lawful activities without fear. Damian also assured the people that the police would continue to do their best to protect lives and property.
