The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) has targeted property owners in highbrow areas for the payment of taxes.
Fielding questions from VON correspondent, the Executive Chairman of the Service, Dr. Murtala Awodun said method of tax collection would be strengthened this year to enable the Service meet up with its projection for the year.
The Executive Chairman of the Service explained that property owners in the state should be ready to pay more taxes, urging the residents of the state to pay their tenement rates and land charges as at when due.
On the automated payments in all Ministries, Departments and Agencies, Dr. Awodun said the e-platform method of payment had commenced since January this year, saying that no payment points of the service should receive cash.
He cautioned that anybody caught collecting cash would be taken to the revenue court to face necessary disciplinary action.
Dr. Awodun said the Service had opened six area offices across six local governments, while there are plans to open such offices in other local governments.
