…..reach agreement with state government
By Tayo Joseph, Lagos
Rivers Students under the aegis of National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS) have called off their planned street protest scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, September 27, 2017.
Addressing a press conference in Port Harcourt after a meeting with officials of the Rivers State Government at the Government House, National President of NURSS, Comrade Patrick Ogbuehi said: “I am directing the entire Rivers Students prepared to go on peaceful demonstration, to ceasefire.” This is because the State Government has indicated positive interest to ensure that our demands are addressed. I like to put in on record that we were not compelled, neither were we bought over.
The National President of NURSS said that the result of the negotiations with the Rivers State Government team led by the Chief of Staff, Engr Chukwuemeka Woke is enough to drive home their demands.
“Today, the Rivers State Government on the instructions of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike appealed to us and have given us two weeks to address issues raised,” the NURSS President said.
Also speaking, the National Senate President of NURSS, Rt. Hon. Ibiba Peter Oweredaba said:
“We have come to an agreement with the Government of Rivers State. I want to appeal to all students to sheath their swords.”
Also in attendance at the meeting was the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Rivers State, Ambassador Saraigbe Sukubo.
